Meet Estelle: MyLibook
Today I want to introduce you to a mother of two children, Estelle Bardon. She is the Founder of MyLibook. MyLibook is an original personalized book series that engages early readers and motivates them to learn how to read. Infants hear their parents read to them, toddlers help turn book pages, look at the pictures, and start recognizing letters. Later on, early readers are able to connect the letters and make sense of the words in order to understand the story. All these steps prepare us for a lifelong relationship with books.
Estelle was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was a child and her memories about learning how to read are anything but fun. Fast forward to parenthood, and her experiences teaching her own children, experimenting different ways to make learning to read fun and engaging. Over several months of trials, Estelle noticed that each time she created homeschooling activities using her daughter’s name she was more engaged.
It turned out that Estelle’s observation of her daughter’s positive reaction to personalization was confirmed by scientists who have investigated the topic. In this study published in 2014, experts found that “children exposed to personalized content showed significantly better knowledge about the words that were in the personalized sections of the books than the words in the non-personalized sections.”

So, we sat down with Estelle to talk about all things mom life and to learn more about MyLiBook and the inspiration behind starting this business.
What is your greatest gift about being a mom?
I love listening to my children laugh. Being a working mom, launching a start-up in addition, I feel that I am always running everywhere. When my girls laugh, I stop and I listen, then I smile or laugh depending on the reasons behind the laughter.
What did you do prior to starting your business?
I work on MyLibook at night when my girls are asleep. During the day, I am a Project Manager in Aerospace.
At night, I imagine the smiles of the children reading my books. During the day, I make sure the Engineers stay on track with their task. MyLibook is my passion. I hope that I will be able to focus on helping children learn how to read full time soon.
Who has most influenced you to be the mom you are today?
My husband has been my biggest support. He gives me a shoulder to lean on during the tough times and celebrates with me during my successes. I heard from another author that publishing a book is like having a baby. I agree with her. You spend months nurturing it, imagining it coming to life, then it is published and finally the hard work starts with the highs and the lows but a lot of love.
Where can we find MyLibook?
On my website: mylibook.com
We’re always bombarded by howa great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life has not always been easy for me. I started with dyslexia and struggled to learn how to read. My parents did not see my education as their priority and didn't see the potential in me but I learned how to work hard to offset my dyslexia and the lack of support I had growing up. And here I am, in the United States (I was born in France), with a caring and loving husband and two energetic girls.
How is MyLibook different from other books?
MyLibook is not a personalized children’s storybook. The personalized books currently available are storybooks that need to be read by adults.
MyLibook is not a mass-produced phonics book. Phonics books are adapted to early readers but do not offer the personalized element that is proven to increase reader engagement.
To encourage children on their reading journey, MyLibook offers a variety of tools that are fun and easy to use:
With the MyLibook personalized series, children will have the unique experience of reading a book where they are the hero. Every book is written using small sets of single-syllable, short vowel words and early reader sight words in order to allow children to read independently. The series is designed in a progressive style, advancing learning as you move through the seven books of each set.
The 12-page books are designed for easy reading and confidence building. Once children have read the full books by themselves, they can even color in the books!
You can order the MyLibook early reader series on our website MyLibook.com (use the coupon CHRISTMAS2020 to get 10% off and free shipping — for limited time only).
